Вопросы и ответы
What is the average current draw of the Whelen Orion 600 at 12 volts and at 24 volts?

For position light: 12v = 1/2 amp, 24v = 0.17 amp
For anti-collision light: 12v = 1 amp, 24v = 1/2 amp

Are these lights priced and sold individually or as a pair?

These Orion 600 lights are priced and sold each. An order for quantity 1 will ship with 1 light.

What is the difference between the Whelen Orion 600 series and the Orion 650 series of lights?

Per the supplier: The Orion 600 series has a rear position light built into it. The footprint is also different. The Orion 650 is designed to replace our legacy A650 products while the Orion 600 is designed to replace the A600 Series assemblies.

Is the 600 TSOd on certified aircraft? I have a 650 legacy style on a 2004 American/Bellanca Scout. Or will I need to use the 650 Orion?

Yes, the Orion 600 series LED lights are fully TSO approved for use in certified aircraft.

Are the Whelen Orion 600 series a 3 in 1 light including strobe?

Yes, the Orion 600 is a 3 in 1 light.

What is the type & gauge of wire required for the 12V Whelen Orion 600 nav/strobe system?

4 conductor, 18 gauge wire.

Can you send me the base measures of this Whelen Orion 600 Series LED lights?

Yes, the dimensions are available on our website. Go to the Brochure tab, and download the PDF. It includes a dimensional drawing of the lights for reference.

Will installing these on my certified aircraft allow the removal of the old rotating beacon on the belly of the airplane?

Per Whelen: Per Vendor: That question is for the FAA. We cannot answer questions of legality as they do not involve Whelen Engineering.

Conceptually the answer is yes, the OR600 meets all the position and anti-collision light requirements. However, the FAA may feel differently that must be consulted on these matters.

Is the Orion 600 series strobe a quick flicker or an on / off style?

The strobe is ON/OFF

Can the Orion 600 series strobes be operated by one switch and the navs from another or do both run off one switch?

Each is wired independent and should be run off separate circuits.

The Orion 600 has the rear position light and the 650 does not? Is that the only difference - the nav light and strobe are the same exact lights and brightness on the 600 and 650.

The 600 has the rear nav and the 650 does not.

Under voltage in the table above, this is listed as a 24V light, but Whelen has a 28V version only. Is this just a typo here?

They list it as a 28v because a 24v system operates at 24v but it can peak up to 28v. It can be notated either way, we will update our page to avoid confusion.

Do I need to use shielded wire for the Whelen Orion 600 or Orion 650 series lights?

The instructions do not call for shielded wire. Please confirm with your A&P to determine wire requirements for your aircraft.

What is the warranty for the Whelen Orion 600 series system?

Whelen aviation LED products have a 5 year warranty.

Question below asks what wire to use, and the answer given is 18 Gauge. Yet the install manual (28V) shows the light with wires that are 20 Gauge. Why the difference?

The assemblies do have 20 gauge wire but this is not recommended for the entire run as the anti-collision light will draw over 2 amps when it pulses with this being said we do not always know the wiring distance from the switch to the light so we recommend utilizing 18 gage wire.

What is the difference in the footprints between the Orion 600 and the 650?

The 600 is 5.65" L x 1.78" W x 2.04H. The 650 is 3.95" L x 1.79" W x 1.67H.

Does the Orion 600 compile with 180 degree visibility. Therefore we would not need a tail light? Do they make a Orion tail light?

The tail light requirement would be aircraft dependent. The Orion tail light can be found under part # 11-11975 (14v) or part # 11-11977 (28v).
