The basic flight instrument for co-ordinated turns. Available in two styles:

Rectangular model fits easily in cramped panel space.

Square model matches a 2-1/4" instrument hole, fits on either side of the panel.

Both feature finely crafted metal cases and precision ball and tube assemblies.

It is 2-1/2" wide, 1-3/8" high and 1/2" deep.

Is the rectangular model a surface mount or does it require a hole in the panel?

It does require a rectangular cut (not a surface mount).

No, the Winter slip indicators are intended for use in experimental aircraft only.

Can the liquid in the Winter Slip Indicators freeze at low temperature and crack open the slip indicator?

This is a kerosene based liquid with a very low freezing point.
