I'm building a Sonex and looking for a throttle solution that will work on both sides of the cockpit. Can this throttle quadrant be mounted / used on both left and right side?

This would depend on the skill level of the builder, certainly the throttle quadrant could be used on either side of the cockpit but it requires the builder to fabricate the necessary attachments so that it will function correctly.

Does this unit incorporate any type of friction lock?

It does not have a friction lock.
