NOTE: Please remove drive gears before returning Magneto cores for "Core Credit."

These lightweight aircraft magnetos are being used by many new equipment manufacturers. Weigh only 3-3/4 lbs. compared to 6-1/4 lbs. for typical old style magnetos.

In early 1988, Slick discontinued the sale of re-manufactured magnetos to offer new units only.

All units carry a one-year warranty after delivery to the user. These model magnetos are completely rebuild-able. The old 4000/4100 series magnetos and the 600 series magnetos may not be returned as an exchange unit for a new magneto of the same model. Most other Magnetos may be returned for core credit.

Drive gears are not included. *When purchasing slick magneto separately gaskets are not included.

Are there any restrictions on what type of magneto may be returned for core credit (not exchange)?

4000/4100 series are not accepted as cores, 4200 and newer series mags are acceptable. Some competitor mags are accepted, but please verify first with sales to be sure your mag will be accepted.

If I replace my 4200 with the 4300, do I have to get a new wire harness and drive gear or can I use the old ones off the 4200?

Both the harness and gear from a 4200 mag will work on a 4300 mag with no issues, that said if the harness is as old as the 4200 mag (25+) years it absolutely needs to be replaced as well.

Is 4330 slick magneto sold with impulse coupling?

Yes, the 4330 Slick Magneto is sold with an impulse coupling.

Is the Slick Mag 4373 sold with impulse coupling?

Yes, the 4373 mage is sold with an impulse coupling.

Is there a time limit after ordering a new Magneto to return the old magneto for core charge refund? Do I have to pay the core charge in advance and receive a refund after returning the old magneto? Best Regards Thomas Kaufmann Switzerland

Yes, you will have to pay for the core in advance and once we receive your core we will refund you back you money. There is no set time limit on how long you have to return the core.

Do you accept core returns of Unison Industries Slick Magneto 4371 for core credit on the purchase of Champion Slick Magneto 4371?

Per Champion: No. We no longer accept Unison Industries magnetos as cores.

Will the drive gear off my 4001 fit a 4301? If I buy two new 4301s will I have to return cores? Thanks

The gear is the same but the 4001 series is not an acceptable core. You would have to provide 4200 or 4300 series cores.

Do all these magnetos you are currently selling have the new distributor gears with monel electrodes and not copper?

Yes, they are all updated.

Would a Slick 4373 with impulse coupler be a direct drop in replacement for my Slick 4371 with impulse coupler?

Per Champion, it could be a direct replacement if experimental and the have the correct prop and starter. It would not likely be a replacement on a certified aircraft.

Are 4300 series Unison mags acceptable cores for 4300 series Champion mag?

Yes, that is a good core.

It says these magnetos are not FAA approved, why is that?

PER CHAMPION: The STC/337 is an approval. Companies get STCs (which require 337 submittals) when they seek approval on their own. PMA approval can only be granted when the manufacturer that uses the part provides a PMA assist letter to the component manufacturer showing that the parts are TCs in their engine. Again, all components included in an a/c engine will be TC approved (certified in the orginal engine); or STCd (supplemental TC) approvals; which happen at some point after the original certification event, 337 submittal shows the FAA who & why it was done.

Does 4371 comes with the impulse coupling?

Yes, it is sold with the impulse coupling.

Is a 4371 a suitable replacement for 4301?

No they are different mags. Our sales staff can find the correct mags for your application, we would just need the engine model information.
