The RCA-11A series of vacuum directional gyros utilize and air driven precision gyro that controls a vertical rotating azimuth gimbal. The R.C. Allen Model RCA11A has been designed to provide a long life of accurate operation even when subjected to severe operating requirements. This instrument is engineered with a minimum of machined parts, providing lower initial cost and lower maintenance cost through its lifetime.

The RCA11A is non-tumbling within ±85° limits in pitch and roll and can be easily installed in any 3 1/8" panel cut out. Full freedom design allows accurate indication, even after extreme maneuvers. Stainless steel is used at wear points, with aluminum investment and die casting.

A knob is provided to reset the gyro, when compared to the magnetic compass. the RCA11A-8 features the "standard" display.

Meets of exceeds all requirements of FAA TSO C5c and Aeronautical Standard AS397.

Will this fit to my cessna 172P? Is it certified?

This 3 1/8 DG is certified and fits General Aviation aircraft such as the Cessna 172P.

Does this (or any other brand) come in a 2 1/4 size ?

No, as of 5/4/15 there are no directional gyros's available in 2 1/4".

does this unit 10-05683 come in a lighted version ?

Yes, however it is only available new. Please see part number 10-01369

Does the core have to be of like type?

Yes, a RC Allen 11A series will be required for full core refund.

Is there a core charge associated with the purchase of this RC Allen 11A overhauled DG? Are other manufacturer's cores accepted?

Yes, the core charge will be automatically added to the cart when the overhauled DG is added. Only lie cores are accepted.

I have the Cessna version of this instrument, is it acceptable as a core?

It depends on the model of the instrument. Some original Cessna instruments are accepted as cores while others are not. Please contact customer service to confirm your model is accepted.

Does this RC Allen overhauled instrument include all 8130 for installation in certified aircraft?

Yes, this will include the FAA 8130 paperwork.

Can this RC Allen DG 11A-8 be installed in certified aircraft?

Yes, this unit is FAA TSO Approved.

Can I send back RCA-11A-9 core instead of 11A-8?

Per the manufacturer, no, only the 11A-8 is an acceptable core.
