Is the VDO oil temp gauge FAA TSO approved for use in certified aircraft?

No, this gauge is intended for experimental aircraft use only.

What sensor or sender is used with this gauge? Is it pipe thread or 5/8 NPT? Thanks.

This gauge will work with with most sensors with an ohm range of 322-18.6 ohms. See part number 10-01579 for a similar gauge with probe.
