This vest says it is self contained, so do you have to have a cooler of ice with this also? It looks like the tubes would have to hook up to something?

Yes, this can hook up to either the static cooler (part # 13-15509) or the portable back pack (part # 13-15510). Please see the "Accessories" tab to order the back pack or cooler.
