The presidential air transport fleet consists of two specially configured Boeing 747-200B aircraft (tail numbers 28000 and 29000) with the Air Force designation VC-25A. The term Air Force One is commonly applied to the VC-25As more generally. The term "Air Force One" applies only when the President is on board. The VC-25A is capable of flying 7,800 miles (12,600 km)—roughly one-third the distance around the world—without refueling and can accommodate more than 70 passengers. Each VC-25A cost approximately US$325 million. These are among the most famous 747 models with tail numbers 28000 and 29000. The VC-25 was first introduced August 23, 1990 (No. 28000) and on December 23, 1990 (No. 29000).

The fabrication of the current 747s began during Ronald Regans presidency. The first aircraft was delivered in 1990, during the administration of George H.W. Bush. Delays were experienced to allow for additional work to protect the aircraft from electromagnetic pulse (EMP).

These aircraft are flown by the Presidential Airlift Group, and are assigned to Air Mobility Command's 89th Airlift Wing, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. These 2 VC-25s are still in service to provide air transport for the U.S President.
