The Artex ME-406 is a single output ELT. Two emergency frequencies (121.5 and 406.028 MHz) utilize the same RF output, requiring only one coax cable to connect to the new series of Artex single input antennas. The ELT automatically activates during a crash and transmits the standard swept tone on 121.5 MHz. Every 50 seconds for 440 milliseconds the 406 MHz transmitter turns on and transmits an encoded digital message to the Cospas/Sarsat satellite system.The mounting hardware for the ME-406 Series is compatible with all previous models of Artex 406 MHz, as well as the ELT200 Series, ACK, Pointer Model 3000 ELT and Narco ELT’s. Current owners of Artex 2-frequency ELT can re-use the remote switch in the cockpit as well as the wiring harness from the cockpit to the ELT thus greatly reducing installation costs.

Is the ME406 is a direct replacement for the Artex 200?

Sadly no, as you will have to add a panel mounted remote switch and buzzer, replace the new 406 MHz antenna and then mount the new ELT with bracket (included in box).

How is the yearly testing done? Can the A&P/IA do it without special equipment?

All of this is stated in the manual but a unit self test and checking lines for any corrosion is about all you need to do. No tools are needed and cost will only be the time to do the self test and check the lines.

How can I connect an Artex ME406 to a Narco ELT 910 remote switch or an ACK-E01-05 remote switch?

As the ME406 is certified as a kit you have to use the remote switch that comes with the ME406.

Can I use the whip antenna connected to my existing Narco 121.5 ELT with the ME406?

Since ELT's are certified for use with their own specific antennas, it is not recommended to use an older 121.5 Antenna on a different ELT. Some newer ELT antennas can broadcast on both 406/121.5 frequencies but the older antennas were made to support only 121.5.

Does the Artex ME406 come with the 8130?

The Artex ME406 does not come with an 8130 form but one can be purchased with the unit for an additional fee. Please state this request in the special instructions box online or with a sales representative.

What is the difference between the USA model and the international model of the Artex ME406 ELT?

The USA model is for customers with an airplane registered in the u.S. With an "N" number. If you do not have a u.S. Registered aircraft you will need the international model. That is the only difference, the registration of the aircraft that is going in.

Does the Artex ME406 ELT with whip antenna come with a remote switch?

Yes, this kit will include the remote switch.

Will the ME406 interface with a Garmin 430W?

No. The ME406 cannot connect to the GNS 430W. However, the Artex ELT 1000 can.
