GAD 29 is an affordable ARINC 429 avionics data bus module that can be used to interface up to 2 IFR-capable GPS navigators with the G3X, G3X Touch and G5 series electronic flight displays. It can also be used to adapt the GTX 800 series active traffic system for use with G3X and G3X Touch displays.

This compact GPS/navigation data adapter, when installed with the GTN 750 or GTN 650 series or legacy GNS 530 or GNS 430 navigators, can enable such advanced features as GPS steering, WAAS LPV vertical approach guidance, HSI map navigation, coupled VNAV and more for access via your compatible flight display system.

The ARINC 429 interface is the most commonly used data bus for high-end general aviation and commercial aircraft. The GAD 29 module leverages this network interface to offer an affordable way for pilots flying experimental/LSA aircraft to expand the capabilities of their avionics — and access the latest and best in IFR capabilities from their GTN or GNS series GPS navigators.

Вопросы и ответы
Can you please confirm that this is the GAD 29 suitable for certified aircraft?

Yes, our part # 11-15425 is FAA PMA approved for use in certified aircraft. Please keep in mind the GAD 29 does not interface to a 3rd pilot autopilot. If autopilot interface is required, please see the GAD 29B.

Is this the GAD29 or the GAD29B?

This page allows you to select either the GAD 29 or the GAD 29B.

Why would I require a Garmin GAD 29B? I have a Garmin GNS 530 WAAS and STec 20 Auto Pilot.

If you do not need the Garmin G5 to provide heading information to your autopilot or obtain NAV data from the GNS 530, you do not need the GAD 29B.

I have a GTN 650. If I buy a G5 HSI would I also need to purchase a GAD 29? If so, what additional info would the GAD 29 provide?

If the G5 is a top mount, then you will not need the gad 29b since it is only attitude information. If you do a bottom placement and you want the G5 as an HSI unit with NAV data and the capability for autopilot you will need the GAD 29B, otherwise the G5 will be a directional gyro.

Does the GAD 29B come with connector kits?

The GAD 29B does not come with a connector kit, please use connector kit part number 11-11455.

Im installing a GDL82 ADSB solution. I do not have any GNS 430,650s installed, I do not have any autopilot installed and do not plan to. I would like to install a pair of garmin G5s. Is this unit needed to share my GDL82 WAAS antena with the G5s?

If you just want to share the WAAS/GPS information from the GA35, to the G5's and GDL82, you can connect the two units via the RS-232 connection.

What are the dimensions for the GAD 29B? In particular, I need to know the spacing for the fasteners to secure the device.

The spacing dimension is Width 2.352 x Length 5.60.

My aircraft has a Century 21 auto-pilot driven from vacuum-driven DG. Can I install a G5 to replace DG and interface that to drive Century 21 AP through G29B Adapter?

You can install a Garmin G5 to interface with the Century 21 if you a GAD 29B.

Can the GAD 29B be installed on edge rather than flat on a shelf?

Per the manual: The GAD 29/29B should be mounted to a surface known to have sufficient structural integrity to withstand additional inertial forces imposed by the 0.63-pound unit.

What size circuit breaker does the GAD 29B need?

A 5 amp breaker is recommended for the GAD 29B.

Do you need this to interface the GNC-255A with a G5 attitude indicator?

Per the manual, yes it is required.

To install dual G5s with a GNC 420 WAAS, do I need a GAD 29B? I want the bottom G5 to serve as an HSI for IFR approaches, but the 420 has no NAV (VOR).

If you do dual G5 and you want the G5 as an HSI unit with NAV data and the capability for autopilot you will need the GAD 29B, otherwise the G5 will be a directional gyro.

Is the Garmin GAD 29B required to connect a G5 to a GNX375 and a KX155 Nav?

Yes, you will need this as the G5 only has two RS232 ports and some functions are done through ARINC429.
